Leonard Slatkin
Leonard Slatkin is internationally recognized as a celebrated musician and champion of American music and musicians. His imaginative programming and interpretations of a vast range of repertoire have been praised and awarded nationally and internationally.
Mr. Slatkin has regularly appeared over the last two decades with the world's major orchestras and opera companies, including the New York and Berlin Philharmonics, the Chicago Symphony, and Concertgebouw Orchestra, as well as the Metropolitan Opera and Vienna State Opera.
Mr. Slatkin is Principal Guest Conductor of London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and beginning with the 2008 season, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. At the same time he will become Music Director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He is Conductor Laureate of the Saint Louis Symphony and the Music Advisor to the Nashville Symphony, and has just completed a very successful three-year term as Principal Guest Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. In addition to his conducting appearances, Mr. Slatkin is a frequent host of musical broadcasts, which include the BBC, lending his broad knowledge and expertise.
Mr. Slatkin's extensive discography of more than 100 recordings have been recognized with nine Grammy Awards and more than 60 Grammy nominations.

Founded in 1946 by Sir Thomas Beecham, with his vision of bringing world-class performances of the greatest music, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra continues to maintain Beecham’s legacy by offering audiences in the UK and abroad the highest possible standards of music-making, accompanied by some of the most acclaimed artists of the day.
Since its formation, the Orchestra has been directed by some of the world’s finest conductors, most notably Rudolf Kempe, Antal Doráti, André Previn and Vladimir Ashkenazy. The RPO continues to thrive, undertaking a busy concert, touring and recording schedule, under the inspired leadership of Maestro Daniele Gatti (Music Director since 1996) and achieving unanimous acclaim from audiences and critics.The Orchestra is pleased to announce that from the beginning of the 2009-2010 season, Charles Dutoit will become Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, with Daniele Gatti continuing as Conductor Laureate.
As an international orchestra, the RPO has toured more than thirty countries in the last five years, with significant engagements including concerts in the Vatican and Tiananmen Square, China. More recent tours have included the RPO performing in Egypt, Moscow, Spain, Italy, Germany and a month-long tour of the USA with Pinchas Zukerman. Forthcoming plans include a two-week tour to China and Far East Asia this September.
